Favorite Computer Game Genre?

I'm curious what types of computer game genre's people play the most. Do you have a favorite genre or do you play many different types? Personally, I've been stuck in the FPS single player, and online team-based games like Tribes 2 (only the demo), Battlefield 1942 - Desert Combat, etc, until lately. As my previous post states, I've been playing Tony Hawk's latest game, so I guess that's a sports game. I generally stay away from sports games on the computer. Not sure why. My most recent game addition is Rome: Total War. It's technically a real-time strategy game. Actually has both turn-based and real-time portions. It's great so far. First day I picked it up (early XMas present) , I played for probably 6 hours. Hopefully after another week or two I will have enough feedback to post a brief review of the game.

Please, let me know your favorites game genre of all time, if you have one.

  • I have been playing Age of Empire 2 a LOT online. And once you start playing it online, you get bored when you play against Computer. Its just too different from the Human behaviour to have fun... Lately I got addicted to Warcraft 3, Reign of Chaos. I finished it at normal level as fast as I could. I am waiting to buy Warcraft 3, Frozen Throne soon, to see how the story ends. Blizzard is about to release Word of Warcraft, a server based version of Warcraft, featuring new levels and quests all the time, with the possibility to play in groups with people from all over the world. Too bad you have to pay a monthly fee to play. We will see.

  • My favorite genre is the adventure genre, but this can bleed over to practically any genre: role playing, FPS, RTS probably... it's all about the story, tell me a good one and make me feel like I'm a part of it. Even old school paddle and brick games were more fun with a story. I remember thinking I was doing something important playing Arkanoid or Devilish for Sega Genesis.

  • I might be old fashioned, but I like retro games. The newest games make you feel like you are watching a movie. I just want simple actions, simple goals, simple rules, and a way that I can see my skill increasing.
    Pitfall all the way!
